Individual Counseling and Psychotherapy
Anxiety,
panic attacks, depressive states, psychosomatic difficulties, past trauma, burnout, loss and grief — all of these are experiences that can significantly make everyday life more difficult.
In therapy, we work on helping you reconnect with yourself: to recognize what drives you, what holds you back, and which patterns you carry that no longer serve you. Through a safe relationship, warmth, trust, and acceptance, we explore together your present, your past, and what you wish to create in the future.
Couples and Relationship Therapy
Misunderstandings and ineffective communication can easily lead to arguments, hurt feelings, loneliness, or a sense of being stuck in a relationship.
In therapy, we work on learning tools for more effective communication, developing a better understanding of yourself and your partner, and creating a space where the relationship can grow — where both partners feel seen, connected, and supported.
Assessment and Support for High Sensitivity
Highly sensitive individuals are often described as “too sensitive,” “shy,” or “different,” which can lead to feelings of loneliness, low self-confidence, anxiety, or depression.
Through assessment, we explore together whether you are a highly sensitive person and find ways to nurture this trait, transforming it into a source of strength, balance, and well-being.
Who I Am and How I Work
Marija Škrinjarić – a certified Gestalt therapist and member of the Croatian Chamber of Psychotherapists. I graduated from a European-accredited psychotherapy training institute and the British university Brunel. I run a private practice in Zagreb and work with clients worldwide online, in both Croatian and English.
I am also a highly sensitive person myself, which allows me a dual understanding — through lived experience and professional training. High sensitivity is one of the central themes of my work, and I approach it as I believe it deserves to be approached — as a gift, not as a flaw that needs to be fixed.
What moves me most is the relationship — genuine, alive contact with the person in front of me. I bring warmth and presence, along with gentle challenge, which often creates the conditions for real change. Outside of my practice, I am a mother of three teenagers and I love to dance.

Why psychotherapy
Psychotherapy is not only for difficult moments, but also for a deeper understanding of yourself. Through a supportive relationship, it is possible to find greater clarity, calm, and ways to cope with life’s challenges.
Awareness of the Present Moment
Focus your attention on the here and now in order to gain clarity and deeper insight.
Personal Responsibility
Empower yourself by making conscious choices and taking responsibility for your life.
Wholeness
Connect with and accept all aspects of yourself in order to live authentically.
Online psychotherapy
Through video sessions, we explore what is troubling you, recognize patterns, and find ways for you to feel better. This method is suitable for anyone who values flexibility and privacy, or is unable to attend therapy in person.
FAQ
It’s normal to have questions before starting. Here are the things people most often ask about — and if your question isn’t listed here, feel free to ask me.
Do I need to have a serious problem to start therapy?
No. Many of my clients come to therapy not because they are in crisis, but because they want to better understand themselves, navigate transitions, or simply live more freely. Gestalt therapy is just as useful for personal growth as it is for working through emotional pain.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is a space for getting to know each other. I will listen to what brought you here, ask a few basic questions, and together we will agree on the goals of therapy. There is no need to prepare — you just need to show up, I will take care of the rest.
Is everything confidential?
Yes — completely. Everything you share stays between us. Confidentiality is the foundation of the therapeutic relationship and is protected by professional ethics and Croatian law. The only rare exceptions are situations involving an immediate risk to your life or the life of others.
How long does therapy last?
It varies. Some people find relief and clarity in 3–5 sessions, while others prefer ongoing support over a longer period. We will regularly check in on where you are and what you need, so you never continue just out of habit.
Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
Yes — and many clients even prefer it. For some people, being in their own comfortable space actually helps them open up more freely, and it also adds a sense of discretion, especially in smaller communities. The relationship — which is at the core of Gestalt work — is just as strongly present through a screen.
What is the assessment of a highly sensitive person (HSP)?
High sensitivity is present in about 15–20% of the population. The assessment helps determine whether you are a highly sensitive person and explores how this trait shapes your emotional life, relationships, and sense of self. Becoming aware of this trait is often a turning point for clients who have spent years feeling “too much” or “different.”
Do you work in English?
Yes. I am fluent in both Croatian and English and regularly work with international and expatriate clients online. Language should not be a barrier to receiving support.
